Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIE-REINE CHAMMARTIN
Marie (AKA Peter) was born to Hyacinthe Lanoie and Mary Jane Day December 1, 1947. She grew up in LaSalle Manitoba, the youngest of four siblings, Rene, John, and Rose Marie (Magic), all of whom predeceased her. It was in LaSalle that she met her husband and lifelong love, Rene Chammartin, at the age of 11, and they married just three days after her 18th birthday. Rene predeceased Marie in April 2010.
Marie is survived by her daughters, Nicole (Chris) and Danielle (Louis) and her grandchildren, Dylan and Renee (Raul), and their father (Cory Lang). She also had step-grandchildren, Demi and Dylan. Marie loved her family, and her grandchildren were the light of her life; she was grateful to everyone who became a part of her family. Marie is also survived by sisters-in-law, Margaret and Eleanor Lanoie and their families, along with her many brother and sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces from the Chammartin family, and Kerry Orchard and family of Calgary, AB. Marie was well loved and had many friends who cared for her. Later in life, she found a new best friend in Bob Watkins and spent many happy years travelling and spending time with her new navy family.
Marie worked in a few different office roles before finding her home with Winnipeg Child and Family Services in 1988, where she stayed until she retired. Marie loved her work and was grateful every day for the opportunity to help others. After retirement she continued to work casually for the Manitoba Children’s Advocate.
Marie lived many happy years at Accueil Colombien; she felt blessed to call it home. Surrounded by friends, she often lived in service to others, helping others get to appointments or shopping. She found great joy in making others happy.
The family would like to thank her care team of many years at Access St. Boniface (Dr. Paquin), the WRHA Palliative Care Program, and the team at Riverview Health Centre for providing her with compassionate care.
In keeping with Marie’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the charity of your choice as Marie had a big heart and supported many.
